Our National Director for the southern zone, José Miguel Barranco, has taken MASA to the Safety and Environmental Protection Newsletter of Cepsa. We leave you with his entry:
MASA and its subsidiaries aim to maintain its position of leadership and reference in the markets, understanding that no emergency situation, production or economic result can compromise a safe and healthy working environment. This is the beginning of the Integrated Management Systems Policy that MASA, in its latest revision, has had in force since 2018.
Many companies in the sector have, like us, a declaration of principles for their sites and employees. These companies work with many customers with a wide range of activities, production processes, products, operating procedures and environments that make each workplace a very specific and exclusive place.

If we audit any Integrated Management System in which safety is included, we will find dozens of mandatory procedures, with hundreds of hours spent on training, prevention manuals, general and specific procedures, trade training, start-up training and many others. But... where does preventive action begin, is it the sum of hours of training to satiety or is it time to look for allies?
We cannot ignore the fact that labour legislation on prevention is becoming increasingly extensive and, of course, must be complied with, but neither should we forget that our only objective is to have Zero Accidents in the workplace. To achieve this, it is essential that we work on the root of the problem, on training, but also that we must disseminate an appropriate preventive culture among our employees, only in this way can we obtain results: detecting the fault at source and training leaders in prevention who are capable of naturally transmitting this culture.
Our focus is on people, not roles. Because the leader is not always the boss or the boss a leader. We have to reach out to our employees through their own colleagues, raising their awareness on a one-to-one basis, involving them in the process so that they make it possible for us to work as a team and achieve the goal.
Of the many projects in which I have had the good fortune to participate at MASA, I would like to highlight our IMPULSORES project, which is all about fostering this preventive culture by locating and giving the necessary tools to our safety leaders, with tangible results. Their efforts were recognised by the Cepsa WePioneer awards in 2020.
