This certification guarantees compliance with energy consumption management requirements, leading to visible savings in energy consumption.
Since 2016 MASA, an industrial services company, has opted for an energy management system with the aim of knowing the energy consumption of its facilities, seeking both to comply with legal requirements and to improve its performance.
In a global context that calls for an immediate reaction to the uncontrolled consumption of natural resources, MASA GROUP fulfils its responsibility to propose and implement measures to reduce its consumption.
To this end, it has developed the energy project mainly in two facilities, the offices of GRUPO MASA deBarcelona in Gran Vía and the Madrid offices of Edificación in Téllez street. MASA seeks both to save energy and to give visibility to the results achieved, demonstrating that the measures are effective and can be implemented in any facility. Thus, MASA has achieved ISO 50.001 certification in the aforementioned offices. This certification guarantees compliance with energy consumption management requirements, leading to visible savings in energy consumption.
The following graph shows the evolution of consumption in the Téllez offices throughout the year, showing the accumulated monthly consumption for each year since 2017. It should be noted that these offices began their certification in 2019, when the results achieved are beginning to be observed. On the other hand, after the anomalous year 2020, no real conclusions can be drawn regarding energy performance after the measures taken as they were unoccupied for several months of the year.

Similarly, the evolution of the accumulated monthly consumption in the Gran Vía offices, which have been certified since the end of 2016, is also shown. It is clear that the consumption of the offices has been progressively reduced through the measures implemented, reducing consumption by more than 10% compared to the previous year in each of the years in which the project has been carried out. Likewise, the year 2020 will require a detailed analysis as the offices have not been occupied in a normal regime due to the situation generated by COVID-19.

ENERGY OBJECTIVES
In order to achieve these results, emphasis has been placed on:
- Control of air-conditioning systems, establishment of timetables and setpoint temperatures, as well as control of their shutdown when they are not necessary.
- Control of lighting systems, implementing zonal lighting and replacing lighting technology with more efficient lighting technology (presence sensors, timers, LED lighting, etc.).
In the Téllez's offices, following the replacement of all fluorescent screens with LED screens, work is being carried out on the installation of presence sensors in communal areas to avoid switching on when there is no one present.
These measures are estimated to save 6,000 kWh/year and have a payback period of 1.92 years.
CO2 emissions «avoided»: 1.98 tCO2/year
Currently, in the Gran Vía offices Fluorescent lighting is being progressively replaced by LED lighting in all office areas and lighting is being sectorised by workstations.
With this objective, savings of 3,000 kWh/year and a payback period of 0.14 years are estimated.
CO2 emissions «avoided»: 0.96 tCO2/year
